Reverend Dr. Abraham Murray
Rev. Murray is the son of the late Deacon Isaac and Nellie Lancaster Murray. He was a lifelong resident of Charleston, SC, who now makes his home on Lady’s Island. His early years were spent in the Liberty Hill section of North Charleston, SC. The late Rev. Dr. B. J. Whipper, Sr., baptized him at a young age at the Charity Missionary Baptist Church.
Rev. Murray is a graduate of Trident Technical College, Baptist College of Charleston, Cummins Theological Seminary, Webster University, and Erskine Theological Seminary. His Doctoral Dissertation is titled “A Biblical and Theological Approach for Evangelism Through the Fostering of Relationships”. Rev. Murray is licensed in the state of South Carolina as a Professional Counselor and is also a Certified Grief Facilitator.
Rev. Murray is a 12-year veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and retired early from the Charleston Naval Shipyard due to base closure.
Rev. Murray and his wife Vernell, a retired Registered Nurse, have been married for over 47 years and have one daughter, Erica, also a nurse, and two grandsons, KaiShon Abraham and Kadeem Armard.
Rev. Murray was installed as Pastor of The Brick Baptist Church in June of 2001. Since then, the Church and the Fellowship Hall have been refurbished, Office equipment has been upgraded, a Church Van has been purchased, Ministries reorganized, and two additional choirs organized. Guidelines for funerals, marriages, and a New Members Manual have been presented and approved by the Church.
Rev. Murray has brought inspiration to Brick by providing a vision for the growth of the church, which includes building a sanctuary that meets the needs of the worshipers of today.
Rev Murray is a family man. He treasures the time spent in the company of his wife, daughter, and grandchildren.
Above all, He is an anointed servant of the Lord who desires to do the Lord’s will.
